1929 STANDARD Phaeton

I have a friend who told me this AM that he is selling his 1929 STANDARD Phaeton. I asked the difference between a standard and deluxe. He said "the Deluxe only had 2 doors". I told him that only applied to the 1930 & 1931 Deluxe Phaeton. NOW, was there ever a 1929 Phaeton designated as a Deluxe. I am sure that those who added cowl lights and a right side tail light would then call it a deluxe, but I don't think they were ever a "factory" option. Am I correct or is my memory failing? I know, I am "nit-picking", just curious. He also told me that the 1928 Phaeton only had front doors, & was not a Fordor. WRONG ?????

Thanks, Don

YOU are correct, not your friend. The Deluxe Phaeton (the ONLY Deluxe Phaeton!) was made from mid-1930 to the end of production 1931, although due to the winter months, production fell off after September. There may be some weird foreign body style that was called a "Deluxe", but for American production - there was only ONE Deluxe Phaeton with two-doors. All others had four doors, 1928-1931.

By the way, Ford nomenclature for the 1928 to mid-1930 Phaeton was simply "the Phaeton". It didn't become the "Standard Phaeton" until after the Deluxe Phaeton was introduced in mid-1930. The same goes for the Roadster. It was just "the Ford Roadster" until the Deluxe Roadster came out in the summer of 1930.

One of my friends bought a 2 door deluxe phaeton, but sold it soon after saying that it wasn't comfortable.

I also prefer the bench seat and 4 doors on my 1928 Phaeton. :)

Tudor sedans from 28-29 have been cut down at the doors and roof off at the belt line to make a tudor into a car that never existed in production. They usually don't have a folding top because that would be too difficult to fab. Sometimes they look believable but more often, fool only the most gullible. Look for pictures of model A's from Cuba, Argentina, other South American countries.
