Front Motor Mount

I replaced my front motor mount springs and flat spring steel plate on my 29 and there is a 1/8" space between the engine mount and flat spring plate. I have tried 2 different sets of springs and 2 different plates. This does not seem correct it seems as if the flat spring steel piece the leather washer and bottom of mount should be tight to each other. I looks like the spring plate that I removed may have a little more arch to it I do not think enough to take up the space. Any information would be appreciated,
Thanks Ed

Re: Front Motor Mount

There should be some space between the spring plate and the mount. The plate is only spring in case the motor bounces down against it. If you mount it with the mount solid against the plate, you defeat the purpose of the 2 springs on top and the single spring on the bottom. If you are intent on it touching, you can tighten the bottom nut enough to have it touch.

I agree with James. There should be a small space to take up a serious bounce.

I seem to remember a discussion on this topic that said some of the springs available were not the right length, also I would loosen and retighten the flywheel housing to the side mount bolts.
