Oil change process

being dormant with my cardio rehab program, I forgets stuff.
After draining out my oil, can I add a quart into the filler hole and will that washout the old oil in the dip tray?
Thanks

Re: Oil change process

No. It will go directly into the oil pan. The drip try can only be filled or added to by the oil circulating system driven by the operation of the engine.

Don't worry about it. Just change the oil and drive. Have fun!

You can remove the distributor and add a qt or 2, but, like Jim said, I don't think you need to worry about it.

Just change the oil as normal, then drive it like you stole it!

Go play with your trains instead. It's too freaking nasty outside to be driving an "A"!
Here you are driving in miniature!

The cardio rehab is progressing very well. I'm about 1.2 way done.
I got 2 duty times as the National Christmas tree. I love doing the trains there.

In early Feb WGHT comes to town. I will be running standard gauge trains there.

It sure looks like the oil entering hru te vent pipe lands in the dip tray.

The reason behind dumping a quart down the distributor hole on a new rebuild is to get oil into the valve chamber and bearings. After that just change oil as usual.

Re: Oil change process

Motor oil gets to the dip tray in the crankcase 3 ways:
1. Oil poured down the breather pipe;
2. Overflow out of valve chamber into the timing gear area;
3. Oil exiting the oil return pipe.

And a small amount from the other main bearings?
