What is this tool for ???

1 Attachment(s)
Poking around in one of my pop's toolboxes I found these two tools.
It appears that they were once one a double ended tool and pop cut it in two.
Probably a clearance issue.
One end is a hex socket the other a spanner.
Maybe someone has one similar.
Any ideas ???

Looks like a distributor tool. The slotted driver end fits the primary post on a 216 Chevy, if I remember. Looks too small to fit an ignition switch.

I think the one on the right is for the barrel nut used on the crab distributors.

the one on the right may be used to remove some of the 49 to 53 bezels on the dash (light switch) i have one with the similar two small extensions to remove the locking ring on the switch retainer.

I don't have it here to compare.

When I was doing tune up service on Chevy 6 distributors, I had a tool that looked like that.

It may well work for carburetor service also.

It is a tool used on the older Delco distributors. It fit the stud & nut thru bolt on the low voltage terminal on the side of dist.
Picture of an un-altered tool.

Re: What is this tool for ???

Thanks 42'merc !

I am going to mount it on the wall with about 30
other obsolete and unidentified old tools I have.

When they have my auction they will probably go
for a pittance as nobody will know what they are for.

if the nut driver is 5/16 it's should fit the hex on the cutouts for those that have them. I agree with some of the post that the protruding slot one is for the special nuts that are on the primary side of the coil lead (s).
I have one as posted by 42 merc. KR Wilson made a similar for use on the applications I have noted.

Those were probably originally part of the larger tool that was cut in two to make the individual drivers.

Re: What is this tool for ???

I didn't measure the hex, but the old Delco ignition terminals (coil & dist) used an 11/32" hex nut.
