Re: Great northern route 2 Hi Everyone. Things must be going okay, it looks like he's still got some clean clothes!
It's amazing the change that the whitewalls make. When I see the car with the whites, I think it accentuates the bumpers. But with the blacks, it plays off the top. [Edit to add: Can't wait to see how it looks with top down.] Either way Frank you have a great looking car. Sorry buddy, but I think the only way to work this out is to get two sets of tires & wheels! |
Re: Great northern route 2 Another possibility might be to run whitewalls on one side, and blackwalls on the other side, like Clem does on his 39 peekup ;).

Re: Great northern route 2 It's nice to see the 47-8 next to the 49. What a radical change. I like most Fords up to the mid-50s and it's hard to know which ones I like best, but I love the shoeboxes. A convertible makes it even better!

Re: Great northern route 2 I was hoping to stop farther north but without having a set stopping point it was hard to get a room. I'm in Seaside and got here about a half hour after dark. I'm not a fan of night driving and it sort of defeated the purpose of seeing stuff but I did get a nice view of the sunset on the Pacific. No pics as I was racing the sun. There is a car show of sorts here and I'm sure I'll meet up with Tom Johnson at some point. Not sure where I'll stay tomorrow but I'll be in Salem on Sunday.
Today's ending numbers from the GPS. 3658 miles. 75 hours 53 minutes while moving. |
Re: Great northern route 2 Frank you can always get some white paint to paint on white walls, I use to buy at Western Auto, enjoyed your keeping us up dated. Are you traveling by yourself? Stay safe

Re: Great northern route 2 Frank, are you gonna make it to California?

Re: Great northern route 2 Brendan, I hope to go south before going west but I'll see what happens.

Greetings from Salem. Guess who we ran into on the side of the road?
He made it. Typical Frank. Had to find a pretty lady. Ken |

Re: Great northern route 2 I'll have to upload pics from the camera later. Went to a car show in Seaside Oregon and met up with my friend Tom Johnson from Napa Valley. We hung around the show until around 1:30 and we both headed south on 101. I lost him when I stopped to get some pics of the ocean. You could see a couple of whales in the distance. I drove a little further and stopped at a restaurant in Rockaway OR. Got a bite to eat and head on 101 for about 20 more miles before getting 22 into Salem. It was probably one of the most twisted roads I have ever driven.
I was about 7 miles out of Salem and stopped to enter exact address in GPS for motel. A car from California stopped in front of me and lo and behold it was Ken Bounds and his lovely wife. We chatted for a bit and then headed to our hotels. I'm all checked in at the Red Lion doing laundry as I type this. |

Re: Great northern route 2 1 Attachment(s)
This morning I did some basic maintenance on the car. Greasing the front end is the worst. Everything looks tight and while I topped off the Trans and brake fluid it had not diminished much. The car has used virtually no oil running 10 30 synthetic. I know it is not a modern engine but thinking this stuff can go the distance with highway miles. Here is a pic of the dipstick. It was at the F when I left.

I can only load one pic at a time from my phone but I bought these jack stands from Groits about 4 years ago. They're light and store easy. $80 for the pair but I'm adamant about not getting under a car on any kind of jacl.

Re: Great northern route 2 It's official --- Frank is here in Salem. Had dinner with him tonight and he knows his BBQ chicken and ribs. We were at the Best Little Roadhouse in Salem. They must have known he was coming because they had a picture of a 1949 Ford Convertible up on the wall.
He also said that he has checked out the Park where the Concourse is going to be and he also hoped that no one was grossed out with all the bugs that he left at the car wash after cleaning up the 1949. |
Re: Great northern route 2 Excellent trip so far Frank. I saw that you drove through a little rain. Did you have much rainy weather along the route?
