39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Hello all,
Does anyone make a bracket to put the stock emergency brake handle on a 32 case with a 39 shift tower? If not, I'll go to work fabricating one... Thanks for any leads or info ! |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Yes, I installed one for a friend a few months back. I think it came from the Early V8 Garage.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Some folks make them out of angle iron.
|
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Start with the Early V8 Garage (from post #2) and if no luck try MEC, (330) 644-3450, modelengineeringco.com. I made mine with angle iron many years ago.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket 2 Attachment(s)
I have also been looking for a way to mount the E-brake handle. Here are two pictures I found on the web of home made brackets to attach the handle to the newer shift housing.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Charlie, Made one many years ago and then had a request for one from my son & had it re made . May have it to copy in my shop. Will look and advise by tomorrow. Just a piece of flatstock that uses the 2 bolt holed on the tranny cover with longer bolts and 2 pieces weldedm on the flat stock for the E Brake mount. Hope the info is enough to help you. kerk

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket I would use a piece of angle and weld coupling nuts on top. The 32 bosses were high.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket 1 Attachment(s)
Here's the adapter kit used for mounting a V8 transmission onto a Model A. The simple angle bracket on the far right is for the e-brake ... ignore the arrow.
Easy to make. Attachment 392707 |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket All of the above seem to put the hand brake lever lower than its original position with a '32 shift lever housing which in turn requires more of a slot in the sheet metal floor plate covering the transmission for the same amount of movement of the lever. Why not install the angle iron piece with the lip up rather than down?

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket David, you're correct, of course. I posted the Model A kit to show that only an angle bracket was needed. Hopefully one would reference a '32 shifter top to note the correct alignment.
Maybe not. |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket The Early V8 Garage bracket is nice.
www.earlyv8garage.net/ You will also need something to route the cable to the center of the car if you want to pull equally on both rear brakes. He also makes what you need for that, and that bracket is not trivial. Both of my 32s have his bolt on brackets for the master cyl (which uses all stock holes) as well as the E brake kit. They work well and are professionally made. If you consider the time to make these properly, I believe they are a bargain. These kits can be installed and removed without harming anything stock, including the brake pedal. I would encourage you to look at his products. |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket 3 Attachment(s)
I like the bracket from MEC.
|
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket The best of the lot as that locates the lever where it would be with the original shift lever housing.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Thanks to all-I contacted both sources suggested above with the following results:
Early V8 Garage has one, " custom- fabricated out of steel and TIG,d to have the same appearance and location as on the 32 trans top. $149 + $10 shipping." Available stock tbd MEC has one in cast aluminum, made up with extra long mounting bolts, $34.00 plus shipping. Available in stock. I ordered the MEC, David's input was helpful in getting the location as close to original. Thanks to all folks! |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Sounds cost effective too!
|
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket i think Andy had it right, two coupling nuts ON TOP of the angle iron, done in no time.

Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Has anyone had any luck contacting MEC.
I have tried for a week with no success. An Email address or another phone# perhaps. Thanks, Phil |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Quote:
Be aware that the original '32 metal trans cover that screws to the floor will not fit the '39 trans without modifying it. Its because one shiftier top leans backwards and one does not. Don't buy an original for big bucks and then have to cut it. That would be depressing! Get one of the new repros. I think they also make them with the shifter hole in the correct spot for the '39 trans. |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket Would you really use the MEC bracket if you doing a "period correct" installation?
(Not sure that means much to most guys.) |
Re: 39 shift tower, 32 case emergency brake adapter bracket MEC bracket arrived Monday, I ordered it by phone last Wednesday-Gene answered the phone when I first called, so suggest keep trying if you want to talk to them on that bracket. I don't have an email address or a website for them.
