However, after (re)reading my response I can easily see how it could have been understood as you read it. Sorry about that.

I realize that Ford simply primed the underside of the metal bed. I am certain they would not "waste" (finish) paint where it was not necessary.

I've noticed that Ford did this clear up into the 50s. They used a lot of red oxide primer. I wished they had used it inside the rockers on the mid century Mercs. Maybe they wouldn't have rusted so bad.

Thanks for the kind words. I understand the hesitation to drive it... this one probably won't get driven much, if at all, once completed.
This truck was much rougher than it appeared to be prior to disassembly and stripping. It is certainly NOT the truck that the seller had described. It was full of putty. Even the roof was full! The rear fenders were beyond repair and to me, that says a lot. There must have been ten pounds of putty in each one. The photo attached depicts the front of the box. There was a 2" x2" piece of angle iron poorly welded in there with about a 1/4" of putty over it to "smooth" it out. Cab corners were full of putty - so much so that both the inner and outer corners were replaced.

The floor was full of fiberglass and putty.
On the bright side, the doors and front clip were very nice.
Regardless, after about a zillion hours in body work, it (body) is nearly complete.

Okay, I still have much to learn and am hoping one of you truck guys can help me out...
Is there a welting between the windshield garnish moldings and the dash? If yes, is it painted or black?

Kube, excellent work, did you repair the floor or replace it? If you replaced did you use front half in pieces or the one piece complete floor? I'm replacing a hot rod floor someone hacked in before me, any information would be appreciated! pictures? Thanks

I utilized pieces. I believe that allowed me a better (more accurate) fit. It took more time to do it this way vs. a one piece pan but in my opinion, worth the effort.

Truck is coming along well. Rear fenders now have the witness coat applied and the first (of many) blockings will begin yet this week.
The entire box is also witness coated and should have the first blocking done late next week.
I managed to install the windshields and garnish moldings today.

There was no welting on the 40 Tonner (photo attached). The photo was taken when I bought it from the original owner's son-in-law. My apologies for not responding sooner all my truck photos are on a laptop in CA. Good choice on the body color...!!!

I really am not too smart, and I tend to get a lot of stuff wrong a lot of the time, but it surely looks like I see substantial amounts of welting in that picture. DD

There is welting between the door and the cab. The attached photo may be clearer in that it shows the garnish moulding in direct contact with the cab (no welting) and the door welting next to it.

These are the only other photos that I have that show the top of the dash and the garnish moulding. I know of an untouched 40 commercial here in SoCal that should clear this up. The owner usually returns to CA mid Nov. I'll send you photos as soon as he gets back.
