A few years back my negative battery clamp became loose and the alternator went wild and over charged the system and burned out all of my light bulbs. So now when I remove the floor boards I check the battery terminals. I remove them clean and reinstall. Seeing that the negative post is normally smaller and the positive clamp is larger I’m having a tough time keeping the clamp tight. Besides filling or sticking screws in it has anyone ever use these spacers?

Just the negative or both? I venture the negative! Another method is take the bolt out of the clamp that is causing the problem getting tight and file it from the inside part that is stopping the clamp from tightening. Someone may have replaced the negative cable with a cable with a positive post end. (Or, just use what ya got in the picture on the suspect terminal.) The key is get um, clean and tight!

It is also prudent to remove and clean the battery ground cable where it attaches to the frame. It is out of sight and out of mind and difficult to get to. it is the most neglected electrical connection on a Model A. It is underneath the car where it is subject to harsh conditions. If it has not been cleaned in 10 years remove the battery to provide access; wire wheel the nut and bolt and the end of the cable, and clean the raised boss on the frame with something abrasive.

If you lose the ground connection the generator or alternator will run wild.

I once bought a box of hundreds, sold them for years at 1$ for 3, they worked, but if battery leaked a little acid on the post and it got corroded there's 2 places to corrode and they usually won't survive a cleaning

Pinch the cable clamping end tight with the bolt out and run a hacksaw between the 2 sides to allow the clamp to tighten up more. Or replace the cable with one that fits.
