Can you guys stand another picture problem?

I tried to send a PM with a picture in it. The picture was in a public album I have on the Barn called "PM Pictures". I added the URL of the image I wanted to send using the "Insert Image" button to the message. Here's what the system gave me :

Here is the picture of one of my condensers mounted on a stock 8BA/8RT. Although it's kind of hard to see, he has it mounted on an "L" bracket attached by the top coil mounting bolt. Also notice the yellow lead wire goes to the coil terminal, not the distributor as it normally does. Either location is satisfactory.

The picture may not come through; let me know if it doesn't.

Denny

Obviously, the picture didn't come through. What did I do wrong? Actually it's worse. When I composed this post, my PM had this line at the bottom which disappeared when I did a "Preview Post" :

(IMG)https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/album...eid=43968(/IMG).

In this example, I have replaced the brackets around "IMG" and "/IMG" with parenthesis in the hope that it comes through in this example.

I hope someone can follow this.

Open the image in your album.
Below the image will be a couple of code options.
Copy the [IMG] option and paste in the message either before or after.

I don't see why ryan doesn't do something about making posting pictures less difficult. This is getting old.

Like Seņor Wences on the Ed Sullivan show used to say "difficult for you, easy for me"

Re: Can you guys stand another picture problem?

Thank you "51-Merc-CT". When I did it that way it worked. I went into my album first, "cut" the "IMG" URL, and went to "New Message". I "paste"d the paste buffer into the message and added the text. The results looked just like when I did it all from the "New Message" screen, but there's obviously a difference, but I don't feel like looking for it now; maybe tomorrow.

He did, years ago, on the HAMB side. There was such a big uproar among dual HAMB/Barn users that a lot of them refused to use the HAMB anymore. I think this, at least in part, lead to the decision to leave the Barn as it was. One downside of converting the HAMB site is a lot of data was lost.

Lawson .....Not unlike "51-Merc..." here, I've GOT to make a comment or two. Highest on the list, and once again for you......POSTING PICTURES HERE AIN'T HARD!! Myself, as well as MANY others, have been posting photos here for years, and it is no harder to post a picture than it is to suck a sip of beer.

Ya know, a few years back, a bunch of folks asked Ryan to change the format over on the H.A.M.B. And yeah, it's a little easier to post pics over there now, but SOOO much more changed with the new format, and it affected ME so negatively that I haven't been back since.........but that's MY particular problem! I pray that Ryan leaves this alone here...........IT'S WONDERFUL as-is!

You should note that "tubman" is one of our more-knowledgeable and most-generous members with sharing his wisdom. He is also quite active with sharing pictures here for others. This morning, it was OBVIOUS that he only had ONE small question about a rare, technical issue.....NOT his inability to post pictures on the FordBarn. If there is one thing that I have learned about successfully fitting-in to this type of community, it is that whenever a subject comes up regarding something that I know little or nothing about, I usually just keep my mouth shut.

Like "51-Merc...." alluded to, there's a lot to be said about "difficult for you, easy for me". You were an attorney probably for eons. I personally cannot imagine sitting through 'law school', much less REMEMBERING most of what you learned toward that profession. Funny thing is that YOU (on SEVERAL occasions) have had to ask someone here to explain how to RE-SET your 'signature' line, not to mention how many times you have repeatedly asked how to empty your PM box......two procedures that couldn't possibly be any easier. I'm not knocking you for it.....just trying to point-out that some things come easily for folks, while others just have a hard time catching-on to the simplest of procedures. So with that, I am going to politely and sincerely beg you to quit suggesting that The Boss change this place up. DD

Re: Can you guys stand another picture problem?

Essentially, I was trying to post the PM pictures backwards from the method "51-Merc-CT" posted, and it didn't work. Whether it's some quirk of the forum software or a mistake I was making, I'm gonna figure it out over the next couple of days. I just can't seem to leave things alone.

I will go on record though, and say that the picture posting on this forum is some of the least "user friendly" software I've come across. In cases such as this, "cheat sheets" are invaluable.

To those who know, is it possible to post an image from my computer directly to a PM, or do I have to upload it to a public album first?

I find it easier with more flexibility, to give your personal email to the person you are communicating with. You can then both provide pictures and attachments with your non-Barn email program.

I try to do this myself, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Re: Can you guys stand another picture problem?

You could also start a new message in the "Test" forum here. Post your picture there and then either direct your PM person to it or reference the URL of the posted picture in "Test" and then "copy link" as such:

The test message and picture thumbnail are located here:

Re: Can you guys stand another picture problem?

I'm no computer guy, but I find posting pictures on here quite easy, especially if the pics are on my computer. Pictures from another site is a different story as I haven't had to do that.

I'm 81, so no younger tech savvy guy here

That's what I do. :) For me it is much easier with a lot of detailed back and forth and attaching a number of photo, graphs, etc. And no where near the size limits here on the Barn!

tubman, PM's don't allow photo attachments. They do allow a URL or weblink to be embedded, from my experience.

I think it can be done, but never interested me enough to figure it out!

Here's the screen grab from the new Personal Message window. No paperclip.

If I had to bet it's a likely a feature of the forum software than could be enabled.

Not everyone understands but it costs the web host (FordBarn.com) for each byte stored on their servers (which our messages and uploaded photos are a butt-ton of bytes). So the lack of attachments in PM's saves a whisker on that bill.

Ditto, as I did in post #11.

1) Create new "Test" message
2) Locate the picture you want to share on your computer
3) Upload the picture from your computer to this site as a thumbnail, using JSeery's instructions for example

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...4&d=1626716183

4) Once the thumbnail is uploaded:
- click on the thumbnail to enlarge it
- Now right mouse click on the enlarged picture and either "copy link" or "copy image link", both work for this.

5) Now paste the copied link into your private message using the "Mountain" icon, this one https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/hamb/...nsertimage.gif since in private messages, there is no paperclip.

Sorry to differ here, but I just attached 5 pictures to a PM to a Ford Barn guy. He saw the pictures so it can and does work.
I saw this thread and went to test it.
Ok maybe my pictures are special as in a URL or in a host file on my computer. then I just copy the link over to the PM.
That's how I load them in a normal thread also. I don't use the menu in the header bar.
Probably many ways to skin this cat?
Not trying to cause issues.
Regards,
Chris

Re: Can you guys stand another picture problem?

Thanks to all (especially "51-Merc-CT") for the help; I've got it all figured out.

It's the price we pay for choosing to not upgrade forum software.
