1936 Rear window gasket question
 

This may sound like a silly question, but where should the 2 ends on a 1936 5W rear window gasket meet? Should the seam be at the top of the window or the bottom? Also, is anyone applying window sealer to the window gasket groove itself (sealing gasket to window) or just applying the sealer to the body then setting the window in place?

Originally that rear window rolled up and down. If yours doesn't it has been changed, so do what ever you think will keep it from leaking. Rod

This is a trunk car, so the rear window is fixed. I understand only the rumble cars had the roll down windows.

My 36 has trunk and roll down window,,,,,all .org.

I located the rubber joint at the bottom of the rear window.


1/4 windows I used the one piece rubber seal design from Drake.


The seal between the rubber seal and the body I used 3M black Strip-Calk part number 051135-08578 which shows on the package this type of application.


In addition, this rope type calk does not get hard with age and is a great seal. It is like modeling clay and you can roll it into strips and is easy to install.


I talked to a company that cuts auto glass windows and installs them. The owner had many years of experience and he told me never to use silicon caulk between the steel body and any glass, since he claimed silicon will hold moisture and promote rust.

My 36 Coupe with trunk has a rolldown rear window too.....

Not sure fellas...maybe it's a Standard vs Deluxe thing. One thing I know is this is an original (unrestored) Standard 5W coupe with no roll down rear window.

I would say gasket joining at the bottom.
Maybe it is the deluxe versus the standard thing. Don Rogers would know all about it.

Coming along nicely. Body (with original paint) is polished and ready to go back on the chassis. Chassis is almost complete, only need to work out the exhaust connection around the Early V8 Garage juice brake setup. Garnish and dash has been cleaned, lightly wet sanded and prepped for clear. Dash and garnish are the only pieces that will receive clear coat; NONE for the body. I’ve included a quick snap of the glove box door when it was wet. This is what it will resemble after clear. Here’s some recent photos.

Looking good! Amazing you were able to bring all that original paint back to life, and the dash is going to look beautiful!

on standard coupe with trunk- roll down window was an option.

I have a trunk on my 36 and the window rolls down. Can't answer your question on seals. Not there yet.
