Attachment 480361 I don't know if the attachment came thru but
I've started on my 1942 Deluxe coupe. With my friend Sugarmaker's
assistance I may be able to post some pictures as I make progress. Bought the car when I was out in Iowa the week of 9/11. Needs every bolt touched but just a really solid car. Plans are to install a 59 A-B that we brought home today. I was able to find a number of NOS parts for it thru the years.

Since the war came along after Pearl Harbor, it didn't take long for the things to change in the US. All manufacturers stopped auto production on February 22, 1942. This made all 1942 models a very limited production. Thankfully a lot of Ford parts carried through into production after the war but the 46 models did have some differences.

Be sure and save the original grille and other parts as spares as I am pretty sure 1942 Ford parts are rare. Looks like a great car and a project. Good luck. Enjoy.

'42, this looks like a great find!! I love the lines, and the fact that WWII limited production, makes it a very rare one....that lasts forever!!

You mentioned you found a 59AB to install. Did an engine come with the car?? If so, that, too, would be a 59AB??

RKS.PA. There was oddly enough a 59 AB with the car when I bought the car. Had adjustable lifters and bored .125. When I moved from Iowa I paid a guy to haul it. The car and engine disappeared (he later went to jail for stealing classic cars). One day the car showed up but no engine. I figured I could find another engine but couldn't replace the car. Kind of like having your dog run away. You're just happy he came home! Original engine would've had an "A"
stamped on the head, "raised deck" with a crab distributor. 221 cubes vs 239 of the 59 AB's. Transmission is original with the 1942 VIN stamped on it.

Mercman, enjoyed the video. I see the grandfather has a 1957 Chevy 4 door hardtop. My brother has a 1957 Chevy Nomad I've been helping him on. He's had the car for 42 years and doing a frame up. It will be beautiful when it's done.

Folks,
Stopped by to bother John yesterday. Found him in the garage sorting out several generators for the 42. He has accumulated enough spare parts that this should be a interesting build project for him. Things like oil sending units. Oil filter canister, and much more. John has had many of these mid 40's Fords since he was a kid. The details and the parts, he is very familiar with all of it. Sure helps when sorting things out.
Looks like he has the fan assembly about ready to go.

Was good for me to start to learn a little bit about the features of the V8 flathead world too. All new to me! He is a good teacher!

Looking forward to taking a ride with him in this Ford time capsule.

Chris, so amazing to have found a "flathead buddie" right there in your town of Albion!!! And, so, the learning continues!!! Certainly could have used that when I lived in the southeastern part of your state!!:)

Something on the car a little bit odd: LH headlamp bezel is painted steel (black). The RH
bezel is stainless and was painted black when I got the car. It has been mentioned that there isn't any documentation of a "black out" car. Maybe that gives a little bit of evidence. Car still has the engine shields and seems to be unmolested. There's an oil change sticker from 1975 that is 6,000 miles less than it's showing now.To use an Iowa expression perhaps "rode hard and put out wet" but stored inside since the late 70's.

Yes, good luck, great find classic car. Must keep the 42 look. Weiand made HC compression heads withthe stock 59 head look with 8:1 CR. Just for future information.
