8BA head studs leaking What is the best sealant. I've used two different type of teflon sealer still no luck. Thanks

Re: 8BA head studs leaking Moroso liquid glass was recommended to me.

Re: 8BA head studs leaking Are you really talking studs or are you using head bolts?
|
Re: 8BA head studs leaking I would use non hardening Permatex.
Use it on the threads. And into the block ahead of the studs/bolts. Use a pencil or something to get it below the top of the threads. Do one bolt at a time if you're already torqed up. Karl |
Re: 8BA head studs leaking I had that happen once when I flipped a gasket over by mistake. Starting over with a fresh head gasket solved the weeping around the bolts.

Re: 8BA head studs leaking I like Karl Wolf's suggestion of removing on bolt at a time. Are there any bolts that go into a water jacket. That would mean draining the coolant. Is that correct?
Cheers, Byron. |

Re: 8BA head studs leaking I do 2 or 3 at a time until I've got all 24 on a side done. Make sure you drain the coolant out and that the threads are dry or else it wont seal properly. Use a liberal amount of Permatex #2 and wipe away the excess then let them dry at least 24 hours.

Have never experienced any stud leaks using this sealer, and we've dynoed hundreds upon hundreds of units! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. Having said that above here I would add this, do not install any anti-freeze until you've established there are no leaks with plain water. The anti-freeze will impede sealing any small leaks if they should occur? Be wary of the ambient temps though, you don't want any freeze-ups. |
Re: 8BA head studs leaking Thank you all for the info
