Chevy T5 in a model A

I have a Chevy T5 transmission in my model A and love it. Problem is I need to replace the transmission. I have been told that the 93 and newr transmissions had an integral bell housing (part of the transmission case) is that really true? I need to be able to remove the stock bell housing from the transmission and want to be sure I get the right one.

Why do you need to replace it? They are kinda easy to rebuild and then you know you have a good one. Shouldnt cost a whole lot to have rebuilt if you take it out and bring it to em.

Re: Chevy T5 in a model A

There are two basic forms of the T5. The NWC (Non-world class, sliding gears on shafts) and WC (World class, rollers on shafts). 1993 is the approximate date of transition. Both have identical case/bolt dimensions but the internal gear sets are not interchangeable. There is also a variance in the oil feeder hole for the overdrive gear in the tailshaft section, so if you replace the trans and keep your tail section they either need to match (NWC & NWC or WC & WC) or a slight mod can be done to use a mix. There is also a variance in the speedo drive gear location, and this can be addressed too.

All that said, unless your case is cracked they are an easy rebuild. No need to replace. The WC box is way overkill for a model A. You're never going to wind it up to 6,000 rpm with 400hp nor power-shift at several thousand rpm.
