Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? I've got a '48 Tudor Sedan and am wondering about the proper operation of the rear quarter windows. When I move the regulator, the windows move to the rear and stop. Are they also supposed to roll down, or is the front venting all they are supposed to do?

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? They also roll down. Turn the handle a bit more after closing from the vent position.

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Yes, but I would not be overly bold, you don't want to bend something.
The glass is pushed forward by a big cam on the window regulator engaging a pin on the lower window channel attached to the glass. When the glass reaches fully-forward, the cam eccentric should have rotated to a point where it slips under that pin. Then the regulator is free to act like a conventional up-down regulator. Continued cranking in same direction should lower the window. You may feel a little resistance at the point where the cam slips past the pin. So yes, be a little bold. The glass needs to be fully-forward at that point or the cam won't be able to get past the pin. For the first time you do this it might be a good idea to go slow, help slide the glass with your hands, and look for some obstruction/binding in the slide channels that may be keeping the glass from moving fully-forward. |

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Thanks for the advice. I didn't need to be too "bold", it moved fairly easily both ways after being un-stuck, but it certainly feels like it could use some lubrication at a minimum. I do have replacement anti-rattlers and glass, so I'll need to get to those chores at some point.

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Getting to point where I may attempt to replace the rear quarter glass. The Shop Manual only has instructions on replacing the swing-out glass in a coupe. Can anyone give me advice on replacing the sliding version in my Tudor?

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? I replaced mine when the interior panels were off. You may want to do the same. Having a full view of the mechanism helps immensely.
Also, the garnishes need to come out. |
Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? 1 Attachment(s)
Finally getting back to replacing this glass, window regulators, etc., etc. Does the panel that appears to hold the regulator come off by taking off the 6 screws I've highlighted with arrows? Is that some sort of body sealant that is between that panel and the wheelwell?

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Make certain the new glass is positioned exactly where the old glass was in the channel or you can have problems with the mechanism working like intended. And prepare for some frustration. Job goes “ easier” with two people.

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Just so ya know, that feature was meant to allow ash from your cigarette to be flicked away.
Without losing all the cabin heat |
Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? I don't recall removing that panel but there doesn't seem to be issue doing so. If it helps, take it off.
That goop looks a bit like roofing tar. |
Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Be careful it’s heavy .

Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? I don't see how to replace the window and window regulator without removing that panel.
|
Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Sorry , yes I removed the panel .
|
Re: Tudor rear quarter window-How's that work? Do any of the screws in the middle of that panel adjust the height or travel of the window, like the one on the front window regulator, or do they just hold the regulator to that panel?
