firewall inside insulator?

What is a good way to insulate the inside of the firewall of my '31 Tudor, nothing fancy but effective from the engine summer heat and noise while touring? "Miss Minnie" is a traveling lady that loves the open road. Even so, she still has to do the local errands with me! Thanks, Jim G.

I bought a piece of black carpet runner from Home Depot. The backside has a nice pebble grain which looks nice facing out. Make a template out of cardboard and trim to fit. Attached to firewall with a couple of small bolts and fender washers. Add some felt-type padding underneath for additional sound deadening (used in hot rods). Looks good, effective and inexpensive.

Foil covered bubble insulation from Lowes, a can of contact cement, can of spray paint if you don’t like the silver color. Works great. The suppliers sell metal plates to go around the steering colum and pedals. Easy and cheap.

Google Quick Roof. This is what the VW guys use. I did the inside of my 66 bug and it works really well.
On my A I also wrap my exhaust with header wrap.

Along with felt that is shaped a lot like those metal parts, they go around the steering column and the clutch and brake pedals to keep out heat, noise and fumes. They are held on with screws and can be adjusted to miss hitting the pedals when they are pushed downward.

Useless is what they are! They do not fit anywhere near right.
Remember, we sit on the right side of the car!

Re: firewall inside insulator?

Those are made for LHD cars, probably will not work on RHD.

Carl, You are correct. These are just another of the MANY items vendors do not make available for RHD. You'd be amazed how any there are.
