water leaks around head studs on 1936 LB engine
 

Looking for suggestions on sealing head studs from water leaking around all studs of a fresh rebuilt 1936 LB Ford engine. What do you guys recommend?
Ceramic Engine Seal by Moroso or other products? Barr Block Seal "Liquid Copper"

Just wondering if someone ran a tap in those deck threads to clean them up? Was a non hardening sealer used on the threads of all studs that thread directly into coolant chamber? Did you use new studs and are the threaded ends that go into the deck formed/cut correctly?

Yes, all head studs threads were cleaned out and permatex aviation 300 sealer was used on the studs. The studs were new studs purchased from Roy Nacwitz. Any thoughts on next steps?

1. Remove leakers
2. Clean
3. Apply permatex right stuff
4. Replace stud that will now never leak … there’s a reason its 23 bucks a can

drain & fill it with just water & run it they will stop by them selfs never use any cooling system sealer. unless a cracked block when you got no choice

As 296 V8 mentioned ...use Permatex 'Right Stuff'.....end of story. There are so many forums on leaky studs...maybe there should be a 'reference' section on the Ford barn with identifiable terms such as " Sealing studs on Flatheads". This product also has multiple uses on a car....once you try it, you will not be able to exist without it.....believe me. I introduced this to a local classic car restoration shop......there're hooked...Robert

If someone ran a new/sharp thread cutting tap in those deck threads, that was not the best thing to do when it comes time to seal those studs that enter the water/coolant area. It's best to just use a thread chaser/cleaner. A used head bolt with a couple slots cut straight down through the threads with a hacksaw will do a nice job of cleaning threaded holes in the decks. Possibly by using a good non hardening sealer like Permatex "Right Stuff" that the guys have mentioned here, will get those leaking studs sealed.
