1928 Open car door latches

Guys,

This should be a no brainer and an easy disassembly...

On the back side pf the 1928 inside door latches for Open Cab, Roadster and Phaeton is a rectangular "gaurd" that covers the working parts of the latch.

I have removed the split rivet on the front side of the latch thinking that it would then come off...wrong.

Have used a punch to drive down the cover...will not budge.

It should just come apart but it does not.

What am I not doing to get this off so I can get the handles plated?

Thanks.

Pluck

You should ask oldbluoval - he rebuilt mine and he knows latches very well.

There are some little tabs that come through the back plade. You may need t make sure they have not been taped over so they do not let go. I ground mine back with a light grind and then taped tem out. be careful as there are two strong springs inside when it comes apart. good luck.

Got them off but was a challange...had to drill out the large single tab.

Interesting. When you say rebuilt, does he make a new or source a bolt/catch (not sure what that part inside that latches is call-haha)?

Yes. Would you have some available?

Steve be careful that rivet that holds the handle is a stepped rivet. You should be able to get one from the suppliers over there. I had to make them for my car. I used a square shaft flat head screwdriver held in a vice to help push against the latch while seating the cover back in place.
Good luck.

Tim let me check how many I have left from my run on them. How many do you need left or right . We made them out of O-1 and RC of 50 and exactly like originals. It’s very handy to have a machine shop

Wow, great. Just one left and one right. One of mine is a tad worn.
