64 Galaxie how to separate front drum from hub I am replacing the front brakes. What is the best method for separating the front hub from my worn out drum. I don't want to convert to disc.

Re: 64 Galaxie how to separate front drum from hub If you need to replace the hub or drum, they are held together by the press fit of the wheel studs. To separate, drive the studs out from the front.
To reassemble, you should press the studs back in with a press, but many people use a hammer or pull the studs in with a spacer and a lug nut. Personally I would avoid hammering the new studs in, too much opportunity to warp or even crack the hub or drum. I prefer to use the spacer and lug nut method or have a machine shop press the studs in if you don't have a press. You should have the drums checked for true after installing the studs. If they're out of round have them surfaced just enough to make them round. |
Re: 64 Galaxie how to separate front drum from hub I always had a machine shop do the service. It is nice to have someone else do the work. The drums should be cut after they are staked onto the hubs.

The easiest way is to use the Oxy as the owner of this car did? Seriously, my brother bought this 56 Ford from the USA and when he pulled off the front wheel, this is what he found. It appears that the owner took this short-cut. Not good/ |

Re: 64 Galaxie how to separate front drum from hub yep, found local machine shop that will press out the stud and reassemble for $20 for each set.
