Oil Pump Removal from 1936 Ford Pickup

I've dropped the pan. I took a bolt out where the oil pump attaches to the block. Is there anything else holding it up there? It feels pretty solidly attached even without the bolt! I just don't want to risk messing it up.

Some are locked very tightly in the block by years and years of crud build up. What I would suggest first is applying lots of penetrating oil where the pump enters the block and maybe also some on the pump shaft from inside the pump/idler gear/cam gear chamber. After letting this soak for a day or two, put a wrench on the pump body and 'carefully' turn the pump back and forth, cw and ccw. When it begins to feel like it's moving more freely, begin pulling up as you turn in one direction and it should thread itself up and out of the block. This has worked for me in the past on some op's that were really locked tight in the block.

You mentioned pulling up - this block is still in the truck at the moment. I was going to try to get the thing at least to run before I pulled the block out, etc. Plus a little short on fundage to do it all right now.

At any rate, is it possible to take the pump out with just the oil pan off or does some other stuff need to happen? I've attached a picture of what it looks like from my perspective on the floor, looking up at it.

Like JM 35 said
On one I tore down I had to heat the back of the block w a rose bud to get it out …. After trying everything imaginable.

Theres a good chance you will end up breaking it like I did … it didn’t take much.

Id leave it … just clean the pickup.

Alrighty, that is what I'll do. Thanks guys.

I've had a couple of guys tell me that the old pump is probably fine. Sounds like when I do want to take it off I'll need to plan on a (possible) ordeal and it might be easier to do with the engine block out.
