Leakless water pump whine

1 Attachment(s)
....I replaced my water pump with a leak less that a friend gave me and helped me by installing...here's the problem..the silver collar on the shaft loosened and whined. Tightened it with a screwdriver by ratcheting it tighter...then to a 50 mile trip and the collar loosened and whined...so loud...tightened it up again...I am considering Loctite to keep it in place....

Has anyone experienced this or found a fix? Thanks, kris

If it were mine, I would do a dab of Loctite. After it sets up, squirt a little oil where the shaft goes into the collar/nut. Bill W.

i would be making a phone call and getting another one. that sucks
make sure the inside of the fan pulley is not rubbing the nose of the pump. its a very tight clearance and had to grind some rough edges out once as it made a heck of a racket when things expanded and got hot

Thanks for both your suggestions...It is close in clearance and we took a little off the edge with a grinder. Loctite is in my future...I failed to mention the whine is incredibly loud and somewhat embarrassing....

WHile on the same trip...there was a loud banging coming from the engine compartment...pulled over on the highway, I was the last car....fan belt was torn up...but clipped off the excess and drove 6 more miles to my destination...then one of our club members had a spare....I will carry a spare in the future...dont like side of the highway mechanicing with speeds of 60-70 whizzing by....loved the trip though...
