Mallory distributor I'm building an 8BA engine for a customer. He has a Mallory YC distributor he want to use. I saw where Echlin cs-2301 points are recommended for use, however NAPA says they are obsolete. Any suggestions?

Re: Mallory distributor They list them online unless the listing is out of date. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ECHCS2301

Re: Mallory distributor Ask Bubba. If he don't know, nobody does.

Re: Mallory distributor I have been able to find original Mallory points on eBay occasionally. They used to be kinda reasonable, but I think I paid $25 for the last set. Luckily, I now have enough to last me as long as I need them.

Re: Mallory distributor I have a Mallory crab on my avatar car. If I had an 8ba, I would use the grafted SBC with a true vacuum advance. The Mallory mechanical advance system is a bit hokey, at least the one in my distributor which I think is a YC is. When it goes south, I will go with a well built stock crab. When I built the car in the 1990s, I didn't know any better. I never take it above 5500 RPM anyway.

Re: Mallory distributor I have a Mallory "Flattop" in the '51 mercury engine in my '51 Ford club coupe, along with a set of reworked Edmunds heads and a Rochester 2G carburetor. I drive the car a lot during the summer and do not have a single complaint about the way it runs and drives. I think it comes down to proper setup and maintenance. It's a good thing it does, because I much prefer it's looks over a converted SBC unit (unless the converted distributor is a Mallory:D).

Some of these old guys are pretty cheap?????:D:D:D |
Re: Mallory distributor And the results may not be what you want to see, especially if he still wants to run 6 volts and a generator.

Re: Mallory distributor Bubba,
Can you give me the number off the Ford point sets you use, I can't read the number on the box from your picture. Thanks Bob |

I probably qualify as 'old', and in many ways 'cheap'. But, in this case, cheap has nothing to do with it. |
Re: Mallory distributor WE have two Electronic Mallory distributors on the Dual dist drive on Georges roadster. One has the Petronics and the other was done by Richard. Not sure what he uses. the system has been in operation all summer and has worked flawlessly.
