Supercharged Early Fords!

Some of you may remember my 35 Coupe from the past Early Ford Club Eastern Regional in Gettysburg.

The Coupe was just published/featured in the November issue of Hot Rod Deluxe magazine and also in the online digital "Hot Rod Network" - At the risk of offending some purists, I thought some might enjoy the article - see below link.

Ken Gross took an interesting journalists’ angle of comparing my 35 Coupe to my friends 36 Roadster - providing a bit of historical background regarding these Ford models as well as some discussion about early roots and centrifugal superchargers on early Fords. While both the 35 and 36 are different approaches to more performance - the common link is they both are vintage old school supercharged!

Henry would look at your car, and walk away with a big time grin. Stop, look back and smile some more.:)

PeterC's '35 is the stuff dreams are made of. I absolutely love that car.

The '36 ain't bad either. If only it was a '35 roadster, I'd be head over heals.

Good article.

Here is one that was in this area in 1955. This was a 12 second car at the drags.
First drag car I saw that would pick up the left front wheel off the line.

My friend has just added this set-up to his 1951 Ford Custom Sedan.

Peter, I've probably told you this before, but this '35 3w coupe is absolutely the nicest one I've ever seen built. It is also what I dreamed my '35 3w coupe, that I bought when I was 15/16 yrs old, would look like some day.

I remember that car in Magnolia. That is Harry Walrath. I think he lived
on Perkins Lane. I was about 12 years old with.eye's as big as diner plates.
Did Al Cooper have anything to do with that engine? Gary

Harry was a good friend of mine. We partied many times at his house with Gerry Grant and others.
He assembled all of his own engines. Ballard Auto Parts did most of his machine work. He broke several pistons because he was hung up on JE cast pistons.

Peter, thank you for posting the link. The details of your car are amazing and thanks, too, for the details on your friends roadster. When I see the pictures of your engine compartment and his, I want to go out in my garage and start a major wiping project!! Don't think mine could ever be that spotless!!....but I am motivated!

Re: Supercharged Early Fords!

It was these types of cars in the pages of Hot Rod in the 50's that first attracted me to flathead Fords. Back then the cars were probably not this well done but they were great for their time. Many of us want to increase the interest of younger folks in these old Fords and I think it is these cars that do just that. They also keep the aftermarket parts industry busy. I think the Early V8 Club needs to rethink it's position on modified cars.

Hey Peter....No need for me to reiterate my feelings about your coupe. You're well-aware that I think the execution of that car is in a league all it's own.

And for those of you wondering about the reference to Peter C's history of flying P-51s in the past, here are a couple of interesting shots to ponder.

This is a YOUNG Peter Martin standing on the wing of a P-51 that he flew in 1968.

Below is Peter's charming bride standing in front of another P-51 that he flew in 1976. Peter is most-certainly used to some of the finer things in life!
