Napa belts 59ab

1 Attachment(s)
I did a search 3 different ways and found threads about modified 59ab engines. Mine is stock. I need to go to napa tomorrow, our only auto parts store here and try to get the two belts. Anybody have part numbers or length? I think they are both 5/8 wide. Every time I get to this stage I trouble my way through it. Too long, too short. Thanks in advance.

Gary, I have a 59AB in my 39 P/U and have a B53 between the pumps. However I now run 12V and have a Certified auto electric Ford one wire alt. atop the intake and not a gen.

The belt that was on that Flathead was a Gates Vulco 666, and it ran like a devil. I also have a 39 Mercury with a Ford script 78-8620-A belt, hope this helps you. Scott

see my post titled "Fan and generator belt dimensions", I found NAPA 25-26366 DIDNT FIT, NAPA 24379 is perfect, so I have a brand new NAPA # 25-26366 for sale now, they wouldn't take it back as I didn't keep the packaging slv it came in

Best way I have found is to take a piece of rope about same dia of belt groove and wrap it around the pulleys. Mark where it comes together and either measure it, or just take it to the store with you. It will get you real close. Measure with your gen/ fan mount in the lower part of its travel.

After you get ameasurement, here is a gates chart,NAPA numbers are the same.

I use a TR22545 on my 59. The 11/16 wide work fine for 5/8

John These are truck and bus belts. I have one on my model A that has been on for years.

If you need a belt length and have an old belt, cut it.
Lay it on a table, flat. Take a tape measure, mark off the length.
I do it in feet.
Put it around the pulleys- you could drill holes in the ends, use string to hold in place.
Use tape measure to determine gap.
This measurement and a size chart should get you what you need.

My 59A-B has the NAPA 25-24538 and 25-26366 belts on it. There is supposed to be some slack (1/2) inch I think.

Re: Napa belts 59ab

My work load today didn't allow me to drive the 25 mile round trip to Napa, but I found some old belts that sorta fit from an 8ba in my boneyard... This allowed me to circulate some wind and water on my runstand. I do have one more question and that is do I need to do something with the wiring on my generator so I can run it as an idler? Seems I read it needed to have one of the terminals to ground or some such so I don't ruin it. Hope it's not too late! And this has been great info!
