What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos Been asked to go to OZ and ask a question for good friend!! He has opportunity to purchase a 36 Ford Roadster that is disassembled but body work was done 12 years ago.
The original motor was left on a motor stand, ( you know where it was found, ) on the floor with busted bell housing. ( does not need motor ) Every part and piece is there, COMPLETE. ( has title ) Now let me know your thoughts or info, no photo's of this car. I told him 18k to 22K so you didn't think I was not on the Yellow Brick Road!! IT IS A 1936, 1936, 1936 ----COULD NOT CHANGE THE HEADING 1936 |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos How many hours do you have to verify that 100% of the car is there and that what is there is for a 33' Roadster ?
Sometimes " too good to be true " is just that ....;) Unless you have personal firsthand knowledge about that particular car ... Pass Jim |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos trulyvintage is correct. "PASS". Plus, it all depends on how much of a gambler your friend is and how much $$$ your friend is willing to gamble. "All the parts are there." is an often spoken phrase.
Does that mean "all of the big parts, all of the little parts or all of the parts you can see are there." BE CAREFUL. A pig in a poke is no joke. Urge your friend should look at the car himself in person as you don't want to become an ex-friend. |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos The bell housing can be welded and not able to tell from
outside. I have done 4 for friends over the years. I'm not going to take the time for complete details but the broken parts need to be straightened, edges ground to a bevel and the same with the parts still remaining on the bell housing. Just tack weld the parts in place. Grind the tacks thin and using cast iron nirod stick electrodes weld 1" welds keeping the welds spaced so the metal never gets much hotter than you can touch. Peen the welds to relieve stress and grind the stops and starts of every weld before the next weld. Grind the bell housing smooth and apply a thick coat of engine paint. let it almost dry and stipple the surface with an acid brush and it looks just like the original casting. I forgot to mention, bolt an empty transmission to the bell housing before starting so all the holes a aligned. Re drill and tap any mounting holes that were torn out using the transmission for a drill pattern. Then the owners all asked me not to tell anyone. G.M. |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos 1 Attachment(s)
GM has provided excellent info. The broken off corner of this 8BA block was arc welded 45 years ago as GM suggests and it's still intact. The weld was not ground down and "stippled" as it hidden by the starter. Plus, it's not an ACCA restoration.

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos Is interior complete and new? Tires? Brakes? A lot to look at. Many hours to put together. I think your high.

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos Your title says 33, but in message it says 36. Which is it?
I have no clue as to value, but if it is a '33, that has to be a more desirable car than the 36. Both are nice, but to me 33- 34 is the ultimate V8, other than maybe a '32. |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos The price is different between a 33 and 36. Not sure which one you are referring ?

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos The bottom has dropped out of the prices.'33's roadsters are more valuable that '36's.
There have been several '33 roadsters for sale recently. One was in the high 30's and I know of another one for 25K. Both cars would need an additional 25-50 K put into them depending of what level the owner wanted. You can buy completed cars for that kind of money and save a lot of time. It takes detective work but they are out there and the prices seem to be declining. I sold my '36 roadster several years ago in the mid 40 range and know that it would be hard to get that these days. -Dennis |
Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos depends on condition of parts, etc...how good was bodywork?.....but you price range looks good to me....maybe lower end of range.....good luck....Mike

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos Eleven reply's before someone asked the important question. What and where is it?

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos "Basket cases" are always a long shot. The last one I fell for took three times the purchase price and nearly uncountable hours, both for the work and chasing parts. The result was a very nice car with cash investment putting it well above a reasonable recovery by sale.

Re: What would you pay for a 33 Roadster, no photos Bruce, I purchased a 1936 (68-710B) "basket case" 9 years ago in a garage find with signed title. The running gear was complete with "39 brakes," a new rebuilt flathead engine with all the parts for a running chassis. The body had disassembled parts that were in fair condition. All the body parts were there and complete. It had no interior parts. The rear deck had a lot of cancer that was above my skill level to restore. I have had the roadster in the body shop for three years. It is finished except to install the complete LB interior and top. I chose to keep the roadster all stock with 6V. The reason I did this type of restoration is because of the rarity of all steel '36 roadsters. I paid $14,000 for this project. I have over 100K invested in a concourse, '36 Ford roadster, that is original in every detail. Gnolnor, Ron Long
