39 trans lube
 

Hello this past summer I have been running 140 lube in my trans,what type of trans lube should I use for Midwest winter,if I decide to take it out on a clean dry road day,thats below freezing?

if your only going to use it a few times during the winter and car is parked indoors I would stick with the 140w , but 85/90w sta-lube with GL4 sold at napa would be best

I always run a multi viscosity oil like 75-140. Pick your favorite brand.

One minor correction, there is no such thing as 140w. "W" stands for Winter and the highest "W" rating on gear lube is 85w (some marine gear lubes are rated at 90w). The "w" rating vs the non-w rating relates to the temperature at which the lube is rated. Non-w SAE lube is rated at 212 deg F, w rated lube is rated at 0 deg F.

JJASON, Just for the comparison, place a small bottle cap full of 140 SAE and a bottle cap of 85-140 in your refrigerator or freezer and see what actually happens to the viscosity of each. In cold climates I would use a multi-viscosity. Call CRC and ask them specifically if straight 140 will be ok in very cold climates.
