Correct placement of front and rear grease baffles...
 

What is the correct placement of the early front and rear grease baffles...those with the metal round spacers that are attached to them. These are the grease baffles located within the hub area next to the backing plates.

Not sure what you are talking about, a photo would help. Are these the approx 1" wide tin things that are there to keep grease from getting out to the linnings?

It is the orentation of the grease baffles that have the round metal spacers attached to them that are assembled to the front and rear backing plates. They can be assembled two ways...which is correct?

I believe what Steve is asking is the early style baffles were different than the more common later ones and he's wondering which side goes against the carrier.

I do not know one way or the other but playing around with it I assumed the "spacer" portion of the rear baffle goes against the carrier to keep space between the carrier and baffle.

I don't have any of the early front baffles but here is a picture of one from Brattons.

The flat section goes to the top at 12:00 and widest opening out.
I don't have any experience with the very early ones. The later ones don't have any spacers.
