What is it.

Both water pumps are off my 59A and when I look in the cavity I can see what looks like an electrode hanging down in the block. What would I be seeing.

Anti-corrosion device?

How about a picture and we can all stop guessing?

wire from the casting of the block.

Looks like a wire electrode with a 90 degree bend at the end.

I don’t know how to do pics. Could be some kind of anode?

If its the size of rebar tie-wire, it could have been holding a sand core in place when they poured the cast iron.

You guys are fast. By the time I wrote my sentence four others chimes in. We definitely need a photo, I'm really curious to see this thing.

Judging by where it is, that was my guess (previous post).

As stated, nothing more than un-trimmed wire that was used to fasten/stabilize
the components during the casting process.
These are examples in an 8BA block.

Inside of the blocks are often full of this kind of stuff.

That's a core wire. I found them when cleaning my block back in 1973.
Looks like a 1/8 welding rod with no flux.
