picked up a 1935 pickup project
 

I have never had a 35-6 pickup but always thought they were good looking trucks. i picked this up today and have a few questions. This is not going to be a show truck, just an original 35 pickup that you can use as a truck. Going for a fresh from the barn driver look. The truck was a driver until a tree fell on it in the 60's. It was parked in hopes of rebuilding and parts were found but it never happened. It comes with an extra cab, an extra bed with fenders, an extra grill and a chassis. The truck that the tree fell on is almost 100% complete, even has the key dangling in the ignition. All the original wire wheels are present.I want to put together a truck from the two and want to know if the frame will work as the one under the complete truck is severely rusted. Here are some pics, didn't get a pic of the other bed but it is pretty nice. I think I can save the rest of the sheetmetal. My question is can you tell what year frame the black cab is on? The guy said it was a 36 passenger car he thought. How can I tell the year? It has juice brakes on it. will it work?

Nice looking project !
You have a way better start then the -35 pickup i will put togetter during the winter.
Im breaking down a frame for repair right now.

Nice looking truck, one of the truck gurus will be able to elaborate better as I don't know trucks well. The front shock mounts and rear parallel leafs make me wanna guess late 40's. I know the upper shock mounts on 51-52 look more tubular. Good find and congrats

Looking off my phone it looked like parallel leaf. Zoomed in and see I confused the rear radius rods.

It has a transverse spring, my pictures may not be the best. I can tell the front shocks are not original, it is a crude setup that will come off.

I think it will take you longer than "the winter" to put on together. LOL

35 to 40 car/ 1/2 ton pick up frames and 41 1/2 ton pick ups are the same basic frame. cars have an extra body mount outside the frame rail on each side, easily removable. mechanical to cable to hydraulic brakes all required a little frame differences but nothing hard to overcome. pick the best frame from these years and have fun building a great little ride!

I would think the serial numbers on the frame would tell you what year it is. Van Pelt's web site has a good listing of the serial numbers.

Thanks guys, great info. It did have a number that I could just faintly read. Was there a wood floor in these? What is part of the floor other than the toe board? Wood?

Vanspeed...Between the toeboard and just in front of the seat riser was wood.
On the frame question, the passenger car frames and pickup frames from 35-37 had the holes tapped to mount either the pickup or passenger car bodies and sheetmetal so the 35 pickup sheetmetal and cab will pretty much be just a bolt on using the 35-37 passenger or pickup frames. There are differences in terms of the center crossmember due to the different brake systems between 35/6 and 37 and the shocks do not mount the same way for the 3 years, the cabs and sheetmetal can be mounted. Since you have the original 35 frame, if you use a 38-41 frame, figuring out where to drill holes to mount the 35 cab and sheetmetal gets a whole lot easier. The radiator mount on the 35 was a single hole and there are two holes on the 36 and 37 frames and you have to use the right hole.

Yep, you have the perfect template for all of the frame mounting points! Doesn't get much better than that.

Yes it was in Romulus. I just went over and was able to find the vin on two spots on the frame. It is *4723677* so according to Mac's site this is a 39 frame? If I am correct on the year, is this a good frame for the pickup? I am not builing a hot rod and plan on using all the original sheetmetal.

as others have said, use your '35 frame as template to see what differences there are between the 2 frames....'39 number, so should be good to go....have fun....Mike

Ok kinda figured out that the 35-40 car frames and 35-41 half ton frames will work but still want to know if anything needs to be swapped from the 35 frame. Also got a pic of the extra bed. It is solid, metal floor still present and useable as the wood underneath is still solid. I have no idea what the fenders are. I saw it fast and thought they were originals but clearly they are not. If anybody has a line on rear fenders, please let me know. Going Saturday to look at a nice 40 frame. The extra frame on mine also has numerous patches so I would like to start with something solid. Also picked up a nice set of running boards off Pat here on the barn.
