Spring Condition and Fit

My front spring on the 29 coupe does not seem to have enough space from the ball on the spindle to hook up the shock arm when shackled in place. I noticed this before I took the front end apart and now am concerned that after doing all the front end work it won't fit up right. I saw the dimensions on Brattons catalog for front and back springs but not sure this means much in the no-load position. The back spring allows enough distance for the hookup of the shock arm. Any ideas as to the front or rear spring situation would be appreciated. Any safe way to test these? I can look for some other springs or consider buying new if it is really necessary. Just don't want to put things together and take them apart to fix something I should have taken care of. Thanks

Have you tried hooking up the shock arm and link with the shock off the frame? Seems to me there is a sequence to use. Bob

When putting shocks on my '31 PU, I discovered that my front spring had lost just about all it's "spring". Bottom leaf was relatively flat under normal load. Wound up replacing the spring.
