Flatheads in Street rodder mag.
 

Yes they are street rods but in the new Nov 18 issue of Street Rodder there are three featured cars with flatheads. One of them is Chip Fooses's blown '32. Two of the engines are by H & H. Interesting how they just keep showing up. Flatheads forever!

Just think....in the mid 50's and during the 60's folks were giving away flathead goodies.
I remember I bought the following used parts all for $5. Weber alum. flywheel, 4 x 2 WEIAND intake and a good pair of early OFFY heads.
I was making $1.15 an hour as a bag boy at Grand Union in Red Oaks Mill.
I remember tuna fish was 3 cans for 1 dollar , 5 pounds of sugar was 55 cents and a quart of milk from a vending machine was 25 cents.

An article in the current issue shows how these guys in Street Rodder magazine just can't leave things alone. They say that they "love" Fords, but they won't miss a chance to replace a Ford part with a non Ford part.

A guy buys a really nice 1936 Phaeton and before he even gets it home is plotting how he is going to defile it. He then writes an article about how he has replaced the beautiful 1936 Ford bumpers with a straight across plain 1939 Buick bumper. It does absolutely nothing for the car, but the author thinks it looks better. I shudder to think of the future "improvements" he will make to this beautiful automobile.

I'm a Hot Rodder but those guys at Street Rodder and defile a car as good as anyone. I wish I had the money to buy one of the nice older restoration 40 coupes that keep coming up for sale.

Man, you were picking in high cotton!!! In the fall of 1960 I was bagging them taters at a Fareway in Fort Dodge, Iowa for 65 cents an hour--2 years later I bought my first car, a 40 Ford coupe for 100 bucks--Nary a rust spot on it--So many cars that I let get away!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that was just dumb too. The custom bumper looked like crap.

34fordy. Thanks for making me laugh. I paid $400 for my 40 coupe on April 15, 1963.
I am lucky to still have it.

You can love Fords and still replace parts on them with something that didn't come out of Dearborn. It's been happening since these cars were new. Not every part Ford put on these cars was perfect or unable to be improved upon.

Different strokes for different folks.

I always ask guys at car shows with modern engines and stuff if they have any old parts laying around. I have scored a working clock for my 38 and even a transmission for free.. They see it as junk, I see it as treasure.
