Adventurous aussies On a recent thread I commented on how adventurous Aussies can be, well seeing is believing. This trip was undertaken in 1979. Not sure if you would call it adventurous or madness.

Re: Adventurous aussies I love travelling in that sort of country. You haven't properly experienced nor understand a Model A (or other era car) until you have. There are also decent runs done in NZ.
At the 5 minute mark in the video, anyone can see why at least I insist on an air cleaner yet I've seen some on this forum express disdain for the notion. Thanks for the post, Runnerbun |
Re: Adventurous aussies That was a trip!!!
Here is a link to a map of the route. you have to add Cape York Peninsula and you will see the route https://www.bing.com/maps/default.as...6641_Gladstone |
Re: Adventurous aussies [QUOTE=160B;1406065]That was a trip!!!
There are those amongst us who still do trips like that. Runnerbun and I are amongst them, though we haven't done much together. Why don't some of you guys get a group together? I'm sure we can organise guides. Imagine the stories you can tell when you get back. |

Just tonight someone was tailgating me and blew his horn because he had to slow down when I slowed to make a left hand turn. Some days you just wish there was open season on idiots. |

We are very fortunate to have a great deal of wide open spaces to get away from the busy city areas where most of the idiots live. |
Re: Adventurous aussies Great Video !!! Thanks for posting!!

Re: Adventurous aussies Awesome bulldust footage. I bet some of that dust is still in those cars, nearly 40 years later! Someone should merge this thread with the Trailer Queens thread!
These guys sure earnt their bragging rights. |

Re: Adventurous aussies The pickup in the video clip is now owned by my mate Kpar on the forum.

I bet the guys (and girls) who did that trip have retold the story plenty of times over a drink, all to the awe of the uninitiated. |
Re: Adventurous aussies I have been aware of that trip as I have personally known some of the participants. But this is the first time I'd seen the movie. All spoke of the the terrible Bull Dust and how it got into everything even into the Differential past seals.
One thing that stood out to me was the number of woman and children that went along for the experience. Lawrie, are you referring to the late Bill Turners pickup. Bill was a great guy and a great loss to the Gladstone Vintage Car Community. How many of the other vehicles are still in Gladstone. |
Re: Adventurous aussies Yes ,Terry and Arnold, Keith owns it and the other 33,its the blue one often at my place, still goes like a rocket.
I don't know if any of the others are still around, some of the drivers are though. Lawrie |

Have any of you guys given any thought yet to how you are going to get to the nest National at Murray Bridge? If I put my mind to it, I could be there in one day's driving. Lawrie, maybe you could go via our place. |
Re: Adventurous aussies Brilliant.

Maybe the three of you should do the Great Ocean Road scenic route after leaving Synchro's, which ends at Warrnambool, where I could join you? I have a goal to make this trip. Just thinking.... |
