Model A Deluxe Roadster windhield wiper motor
 

An Ebay seller lists one of these chrome wiper motors for 1930-1931 open cars.He states they are NOS in the box and he seems to sell one after the other,are they really selling for $500.00? I suppose I just won't drive in the rain. They do look nice however.

An electric repo wiper motor is 295.95 at Bratton's. I doubt the ones you are seeing are NOS

If anybody would have multiples of those motors,it would be him.(if it's who I'm thinking of)That's what he does.I don't know how to tell how many he has sold.As far as price,while it might seem like a lot to me,I don't see how you are going to restore and plate one for that kind of money either.I don't know what kind of success people have had replating them,the plater I used to know wouldn't touch them.It is hard to get that old pot metal to hold a vacuum after age and chemicals start warping the body.

There used to be an item # shown that I don't see and I am having trouble showing the item.If you would just go to Ebay and search for 1930 1931 Ford roadster phaeton windshield wiper it should show.

if they are operating originals with good plating and stable pot metal (no bubbles)they are well worth more than 500, much more than that can be spent on good plating, and more on making a plated one operate

Years ago we had an individual who rebuilt Trico windshield wipers come to our club and do a workshop on wipers. He had the original Trico rebuilding tooling. This tooling included a go, no-go gauge to determine if the pot metal body had warped. His comment at that time was many of the new old stock wipers could have warped lower bodies. So I am wary of any NOS wipers that are for sale unless the seller can demonstrate that the wiper is functional.

I just went to the seller's additional eBay listings... Impressive!
I've been looking for a motor for my 68C for some time. So I enlarged the picture of the waffle-top details shown on the cover of another gorgeous 31 S/W motor he has listed. Seemed to be exactly right. So I went to the 'Standards' .....
Now comes a bit of a glitch. (But maybe not a deal breaker...)
The top view on eBay indicates a somewhat different pattern/position for the patent-data area, and logo, on the cover than what is shown in the Judging Standards... (Sorry, this can't be too clear. I wish I could post both pics...)
Ok, so my question is: In fine-point judging, looking at a beautiful instrument like this, just how many points (at most!?!) should/could/would be deducted for a variance like that? Would it be the same as if you didn't have any wiper motor at all?
Also, is it known if Trico supplied different- patterned waffle-top parts for later use in
service/replacement? Seems like some of his other motors share this part. Just wondering. Thanks

also look where the vacuum line come into the motor, there is a extra port that is not drilled on the side that the original motor do not have.
he does say that it is the second series which are a better wiper.

That is what I noticed also "second series".I wonder if that means it is a later Trico replacement part. Guess I was really interested I would ask him but I have other,lots of other stuff to buy for $500 right now.

I have looked at the eBay listing that was given us in a posting above. The box was the clue to me. A number of years ago Trico moved production from USA to Mexico. At a time period just before the move Trico notified all of their dealers of the move and give every dealer the opportunity to buy at their current wholesale as many wipers of each type as they desired in what would be their last USA order. I as a dealer for Trico at that time, ordered only 25 of each Model A type and in the years since have sold all but two. The wipers of that time period were not considered as truly NOS, and were the repro wiper of that time period, very close copies, very minor differences. It has been so many years I do not recall each minor difference but they were new repros at the time, by the original manufacturer. I still have two of these left but at this moment I cannot access the two remaining ones as they are stored elsewhere from my present location.

He is selling new old stock,replacement parts.Not really repro,as it is honestly old stock,as in from a parts store.He doesn't state Ford NOS,just states what it really is and what it fits.I was told you can find the description of the second series in the judging standards.I bought a wiper motor from him for a Packard,same idea,NOS,and it was run before he sent it.Everybody was happy with that one.

as he stated they are NOS (second) series which means they are NOT NOS original there is some differences. they how ever have been doctored to look original. after I paid big money for a NOS original, I for one was not happy to find out that it was a doctored second series, so now I see he lists them as second series. so you need to pay attention to what you are buying. I will also say that the second series is a better motor but I does not meet the standards,

RON MOTTE bought out all the Trico parts a decade or so ago and has been assembling and selling Trico "replacement" - not NOS wiper motors. They work well, look beautiful but are slightly different from OEM. If you are going for fine point, they will not work.
