Mechanical Temperature Gauges

I'd like to run two mechanical temperature gauges in my stock '40 Ford Coupe. I've got a couple of Stewart Warners' around I was going to use, but it's obvious that the coupling that is on the sensor end of the gauge will not fit the threaded openings in the heads. I've checked the local (good) hardware store, but have been able to come up with a fitting that will work.
Does anyone know if Stewart Warner has alternate fittings avaiable, or for that matter, what the size of the outlet in the heads is?
Thanks,
Joe

I bought mine from my local parts store. Just went in and asked about adapters for mecahanical gauge sets that they sold. I think mine were about $5.00 a pr.

Buy a laser pointed thermometer. One dash gage will tell you the total temperature in the engine and the gun will pinpoint temperatures on both sides and measure other temps like rear, trans, gen bearings, brakes and many other things. G.M.

Laser thermometer won't work on shiny objects. The laser beam bounces back. Perferrably black or dark green. Wrapping electrial tape acts as a insulator. My 3 cents... Gordon

I figure you probably got this solved by now, but I got my adapter from Speedway, P/N 1822372 and paid $7.99 - worked great.

Thanks guys.......I got what I needed at NAPA. I'm changing intakes and upper hoses, so I'll install the gauges when I do that work.
