1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? How far up did the speedometer go up to in 1936? Everywhere i look, they only go up to 100 mph, but i was talking to a guy that said he has one that goes up to 150 mph. Seems pretty high for a 36, but maybe im wrong. Just curious if anyone knows for sure, and if they go up to 150, was it only in a certain type of body style? Thanks

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Is it a European model showing Kilometers Per Hour?

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? No it apparently looks like a normal u.s. Speedometer but goes up to 150! Same design, same needle, same colors, ect.... Im just curious, ive just never heard of it. Thanks

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Could be a custom job. However 150 Km/hr would be close to 100MPH, I think. I never heard of a '36 having a 150MPH speedo either.

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Unless it is specifically labelled MPH on the face, it is a metric (KPH) speedometer. The look identical except for the calibration on the face and were manufactured by the same companies that supplied Ford with the MPH speedometers.

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Never seen one either. ken ct. Got to be KPH/

Here are a couple of pics of a 150 kph speedo I have. I also included a mph speedo for comparison. Note the differences in the housing and bezel in the last pic.

Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Geeze. And I thought I was blind. You got two choices... It's either a K or an M.
No, you got three choices... Don't try to read it, just believe uncle buck. You guys, I just don't know about you! |
Re: 1936 speedometer.... 150 mph? Most likely as noted above a metric one, but there is an odd extra possibility: If you look at the little ads in the back of Hot Rod Magazine circa 1952, you will find ads for a little company that reworked Ford speedos: They would recalibrate and re-silkscreen to make a speedo with much higher than stock top speed OR rework your Ford speedo into a tachometer!
One of the speedos has emerged and has been shown on the HAMB. |
