Re: Oil gallery plug That is the front oil galley plug. I have to admit that is my listing...... I had them made to the Ford engineering release drawing for the Part. I have to admit I do not know the reasoning for the shoulder. Maybe a engine expert will chime in..
PS they are available through the link below as well as they are available through Van Pelt Sales. http://thirdgenauto.com/product/1932...ouldered-plug/ |
Re: Oil gallery plug I thought it metered the amount of oil past it, perhaps to the water pumps maybe.

Re: Oil gallery plug That suppose to meter drip drop oil on the timing gears. Van Pelt has those where I
got mine. |
Re: Oil gallery plug As big job indicates.

Re: Oil gallery plug Would a plain plug cause low oil pressure? Just wondering.

Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. I'm just guessing on this scenario based on the photo of the plug, we rarely build any early units any more! Most are the 8BA style nowadays! |

Re: Oil gallery plug Old Henry put that special plug in there for a good reason, and it just amazes me that most of the knowledgeable folks here on these engines and those who are in business rebuilding these engines have no clue why that extended diameter is on that special plug. I can remember posting this same question over 10 years ago here on the Fordbarn when Shelly ran this, and no one could tell me for sure back then. I'd put my money on what Big Job is saying.

Re: Oil gallery plug The oil gets to the timing gears via the flat in the relief valve seat,

Re: Oil gallery plug The 8BA I'm in the process of rebuilding had a plain old brass pipe plug.
|
Re: Oil gallery plug The 8BA engines have the oil relief valve in the oil pump which is likely why they dint have/need the shouldered plug
|
Re: Oil gallery plug I'm sure enough oil sprays out from the from main bearing to lubracate everything quite well. you don't need a leakage from the grub screw.
|
Re: Oil gallery plug I believe the plug with the relief, is downstream from the spring metered valve, serving the duel purpose of terminating the valley tube as well as allowing the metered flow path.
