Rear end/axle grease seal question

The back tires on a 1913 T Roadster were removed to change to new tires. The left rear brake and drum were covered in grease/oil. Is the grease seal on a T the same as an A-inside the axle housing? Or is it accessable from the outside??

Once you pull the cap of the axle tube you then need to take the sleeve out. The seal, if there is one now, is behind it. Most have found that the modern seal on the inside work great for keeping the rear lube from diluting the grease so the felt outers work fine. You will need the sleeve puller to get the sleeve out.

Some very helpful resources on this subject and many others, Milt Webb's Restoring a Ruckstell has a section on page 39 Axle bearing and grease seal service.

Also recommend MTFCA DVD series 8-3,8-4 and 8-5 taking a Model T out of mothballs part 1,2 and 3. I think in the second DVD Milt shows you start to finish how to clean, re-pack and install the new style seal.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

The T parts dealers carry them.
