Screw in 11A-12181 Dist Shaft?

I started to rebuild the distributor for my '46, (first time) and found a slotted screw in the end of the shaft shaft. What is the purpose of the screw? Is there an oiling wick in behind it? Also, the outer few threads have been "staked" preventing removal. Any hints on how to clean up the threads so the screw can be removed?

From our web site bubbasignition.com

One of the secrets from the orginal Ford folks was the placement of a felt wick
( the worm)) placed inside the Crab main shaft. This wick was lubed and allowed a slight amount of oil to transfer to the crabs outter bushing.

Some use a staked screw while others use a welsh plug......somewhat debatable as to whether this worm needs service ????

It must have worked very well as you seldom see a bad bushing in these units.
