Stamp on top of 8ba block

I’m tearing my 8ba apart during the winter to toss a new cam in, saw it was
Stamped Rex then some numbers under the intake
Was curious if anyone knew what it meant, my guess was maybe a rebuild

My 255 Merc engine in the 53 parts car also has numbers stamped in the top of the block near the back on the right hand side. I have no idea what they mean.

Some of them are a date code……

Say you’re a rebuilder and you get a kickback on a job you did. That stamp is your go-to identifier to look up the job in your shop records.

Or it’s proof that you didn’t do the work …..it’s a good practice either way……Mark
