Hubcaps and how to fit them
 

It has been too long since I mounted the hubcaps on the pickup truck and I just can't remember the technique.
I'm attempting to mount the hubcaps on wheels for the 68C and it just isn't working. Anyone want to share a tried and true method of getting a centered snug fit?
Also, several years ago one of our now defunct club members showed up with a tool purported to do a good job of bending the tabs on hubcaps so that they could be snapped on and off without damage. Anyone have experience with this tool and do they still sell them?

I haven't used one, but the vendors do have them. See them advertised in the national magazines all the time. (for 30-31 only)

We need one for the '28 - '29 style though.
As far as I know this tool does not exist.

My method on 1930, 31 hub caps, and I find it easy and successful, IMHO.

I have used this method on three different vehicles.

I use an adhesive backed weather stripping that I cut a short section and attach to every other tang of the hubcap on the side of the tang that will contact the rim. I place the hubcap on the rim and lay the rim on a piece of carpet hubcap side down. I then take a screw driver or a Model A ford tire iron and bend the tabs down, then using a hammer and the screwdriver or tire iron seat the tab tight to the rim. Start on one side and then do the one on the opposite side and then move 90 degrees and repeat until the tabs with the weather stripping are bent down. Check the cap for tightness and hammer any loose tabs and you are done.

I use this tool for the hubcaps on my 1930 coupe and it works great. I haven't lost a hubcap yet using this method. It also allows you to remove the hubcap easily and adjust wheel bearings, tighten rear wheel axle nuts etc. and then to easily replace the hubcap.
