Mice got into rumble seat back cushion

1 Attachment(s)
I left the rumble back cushion in the car which is parked in my workshop - a pole building with a mouse problem, and they finally discovered it and made a big nest inside. The cover appears undamaged but the padding stinks. This photo was taken after vacuuming out the big fluff ball and other stuff they left inside. The other seat cushions have been kept inside the house to avoid the mouse problem, and I was just too lazy to remove 2 screws and take the back cushion out. The mice were still home when I pulled the seat out of the car. One stayed inside the cushion and I had to bang the cushion on the ground twice to get it out. The other mouse was still inside the rumble lid after starting the car and backing it outside.
Now how do I deal with the stinky cushion ? Should I just get some new padding and disassemble the cushion then re-assemble with new stuffing ?
What is the heavy felt padding called ? Is there a good source for the felt and fluffy padding ?

Seat covers are installed over burlap padding which is held tight around the springs. Then atop of that is usually a synthetic cotton or actual cotton if it is older. Mice likely liked your cotton. Replacing it and maybe washing the spring and rinsing the cover is a good idea as well.

Fresh coffee grounds right out of the pkg will do it. Make up some small bags and fill the area. This will help but the ultimate fix is to replace the smally material.

Try contacting Classtique Upholstery for the padding and spring fabric if you decide to replace it. I recently upholstered my rumble seat and my son’s car with their kits. They sell supplies separately.

stick the whole thing in a closet with ionizer.

no odor after a few hours.

For mice I use plastic containers (Tupperware) with holes on the lid and cotton inside cover with water, to which I pour a nice amount of peppermint oil. Place 2 per car inside and 2 underneath. I Leave the cars (2) in that way the full winter inside the barn. No mice nests at all and they always smell as peppermint in spring.

To solve your actual problem I will just spray peppermint oil on the upholstery. It is strong so just several drops or a spoon size of oil will be enought.

I was told that mice don't have bladders so consequentially they dribble as they move around, their urine gets on everything and that's what smells. Besides re-doing the covering and padding, the spring assembly will need a good washing.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Eliminate the mouse problem. I had a half full jug of anti freeze with no lid on it. There were ten mice that dropped down in that jug and drowned in the anti freeze. I guess they like the smell of the antifreeze.
Prop a small stick up to the opening to make it easier for them to go swimming. Better than a mouse trap. but be careful if you have dogs or cats. Some anti freeze is lethal.
