Horn going off My 1952 f1 horn goes off unexpecttly when turning the wheel hard, where should I begin to look?
|
Re: Horn going off First check wire that extends from the steering column under the hood for physical damage.
More than likely the trouble is in the horn button assembly at the steering wheel. Page 276 of the 49 50 51 f1 shop manual (red book) explains how to remove horn button while on page 278 figure 88 covers the horn button assembly. Hope this helps, Tom |
Re: Horn going off Any ground in the wire or button assembly will cause it.

Re: Horn going off Bringing this back up,as I have time.......do I pry the horn button up,I think it's the horn button, how do u not damage it by prying on it???
|
Re: Horn going off No prying.
Disconnect the battery. Push down on the button and turn counterclockwise. Usually about a quarter turn, or less, will do the trick. |
Re: Horn going off The wire from the button that runs down through the steering shaft probably has worn through the insulation at some point and is going to ground which activates the relay.

Re: Horn going off The button must be a Chinese button,I push down and turn ccw and cw,no Bueno,I am at a loss, any other ideas??
|
Re: Horn going off Try harder.

Re: Horn going off My kid pushed in the center and I tried to turn,I am ready to cut into it!!
|
Re: Horn going off I don't know what your horn button looks like but if it has a rim around the part that moves, you need to push down and turn the rim not just the movable button.
Make sure you can buy a replacement before you destroy the one you have. Good luck. |
