Steering shaft and worm gear ID ???

Friend of mine was digging through some NOS steering parts and found a steering shaft. I know it is for a Merc but don't know what year. I have a 53 Merc. Monterey that I want to rebuild the steering box in. Does anyone have a cross reference book that can tell me what this shaft fits or if it will work in my 53 Merc steering box The part number on the shaft is MB-3524.
Thanks in advance.

I think MB-3524 is for a 1954. '52 and '53s are MA-3524 but don't know what the difference is.

Here is link to the '49-'53 Merc chassis parts book:

MERC PN PREFIX MB is 1954

Here in addition, is the 1954/55 MERC Chassis Catalog to hopefully help you further - https://www.lincolnoldparts.com/pdf/...ssis-Parts.pdf

Re: Steering shaft and worm gear ID ???

One for a 1949-51 Mercury would be nice to find! They reproduce them for Ford of those years but not Mercury forcing us to use one meant for a 48-56 Ford truck with possible mods being required on the steering input shaft keyway. The Ford look the same but are bass ackwards due to the pitman arm being in the other side or somthing like that. I lucked out and found a NOS sector shaft still in the OEM box but the worm is a different story! Minor rust damage to the bearing race but hopefully still usable.
Many thanks for the parts manual link
