Remparts Angouleme Rallye International
 

Only two weeks to go before this year's event and my Model A is entered. A 120-150 mile drive through the French countryside stopping a lunch time for meal prepared by a Michelin starred chef in a local chateau. Last year I had to resort to Plan B as the Model A had a hole in a combustion chamber but this year, once the new exhaust I received yesterday is fitted, is ready to roll. About 200 véhicules de collection plus a large number of followers take part. Last year a 1928 Speed Six Bentley and an early 1930s Maserati race car were my favourites but I'm sure that my Sport Coupe will get a lot of attention as well.

Photos from last year. They were taken at the mid morning café and gâteaux stop so the traffic is bunched. For most of the trip the cars are spread out and provide a real spectacle for the crowds who come to watch. The cars with the green rally plates are taking part in the Rallye International, those with the yellow plates in the Club Rally that takes place at the same time. The two rallies split up and follow different routes so are rarely seen together.

The attraction on Sunday 17th will be the historic car racing on the street circuit created every year around this beautiful medieval hilltop town.

I missed some excitement today less than an hour from my home. Thanks to my friends Alison and David for sending me some photos. Hundreds of interesting vehicles there including this lot.

Something to look forward to seeing tomorrow. I know that this won't mean much to most of you but this guy towed his Porsche down from Guildford in Surrey (England) yesterday to Angouleme in South West France. It must be what you Americans call a trailer Queen. Or is that someone who doesn't actually drive their Vintage car?

In case anybody thinks my previous photo was a set up and not genuine, here is another of the same car and trailer using the Channel Tunnel to get from England to France. Awesome!

My Daughter, Cindy, traveled the tunnel by train, from London to Paris. What a FEAT it was, to build that thing.
I never thought about folks DRIVING through it, AMAZING STUFF! SO MUCH we don't comprehend about FARAWAY places!

Thanks for posting. Back in the 1990s, my wife and I went on a rally like that in our Model A with the Model A touring club. There were lots of Classic vintage sports cars on the rally. We had a great time, great memories.

We went to it a few years ago . There is a car cruise around the countryside,
a static show and Racing on Sunday.

If you go to see the races buy the most expensive entry ticket, which allows you to go into the pits and a much better place to check out the action .
We found that the price difference is not very well explained at the ticket booth .

Best part for me was the Bugatti Race must have been about 10 of them at one time!

I went down to Angouleme today to complete my registration for the rally tomorrow. On the way down I actually saw the Bentley towing the Porsche 962 on the N10 near a town called Ruffec. I saw it again in Angouleme town centre so took a couple of photos.
My Model A is all ready, greased, washed and polished, for an early start tomorrow as I don't want to be late for the petit déjeuner in Angouleme.

I like that Lotus 7 and the Morgan behind it as well as the Bugattis. Quite a melange of cars. How did the crop duster get in there? Or was it an aerobatic exhibition?

When we arrived at the chateau for lunch we were greeted by a display consisting of three period planes. There were a couple of monoplanes and a biplane. The one in the photograph was seriously low, it came up the valley from below where we were parked. A fantastic range of cars take part each year including a huge number of Morgan, Lotus, MG, Austin Healey, Triumph, Aston Martin and Jaguar cars of various ages. There are plenty of interesting German cars and Italian exotica as well. My Model A is one the group of older cars.
The Jaguar next to the Seven is an interesting car.
