Stromberg OF Carburetor

Can anybody refer me to the procedure for adjusting a Stromberg Model OF Carburetor? Thanks, Jim in San Jose

Thank you RedmodelT. That is exactly what I was looking for. Were you at the Model T Club National Tour in Rohnert Park last week by any chance? I was driving the only Fordoor Sedan.

No I wasn't. I only tour local to Portland Oregon. 150 miles each way or less and I have to drive to the starting point, no trailer.

I don't think it a good idea to use this carburetor, considering the modern fuel has a very low flash point. IE the alcohol in the gas can be a problem getting preheated in this manor. Perhaps some others can chime in on this issue. Frank

Try buying fuel at a marina, or at a station near boating areas. Non-ethanol fuel is usually available, as ethanol in a boat fuel tank leads to problems. Water will settle to the tank bottom if using plain gasoline, but ethanol absorbs
any water and holds it in suspension, causing nasty problems (got an oar on board?!).
Also, aviation gas cannot have any ethanol in it, (got a parachute on board?!) so if you can buy gas at an airport, your car will thank you!

Re: Stromberg OF Carburetor

The OF is one of the more popular aftermarket carbs, in the day and today. I am not following why you would feel that modern gas would be an issue? People run vaporizers with todays gas with no fire issue. There are very few complete as sold OF's (hot air pipe and exhaust manifolds), most just use the hot air pipe as needed or a home made hot stove setup like what is used normally on the NH or Holley.

I appreciate that you shared your opinion.

I have used an OF carburetor and it performs very well in a Model T with modern E-10 fuel.

So perhaps the old saying that "In theory, Reality and Theory are the same. In Reality, they are not." applies here.

Speaking of Stromberg OF Carburetors, what are they worth? A friend has two that are nice, clean, unmolested carbs that look to be in very good original condition. I was thinking about buying them for one of my Ts, but neither him or I know what they are worth. Thanks.
