Clutch release shaft assembly removal Any tips/instructions for removing the clutch release shaft, pin and fork from my '48 trans.? I don't see anything about that process in the repair manual.
Thanks in advance! Dave |
Re: Clutch release shaft assembly removal As I recall, I removed that pin with a pin punch. Take "Before" photos of the assembly.
However, I did replace it with a socket head cap screw threaded into the shaft with a nut and Loctite on the other end. That was 20 years ago. Still working fine. I think replacement pins are available if you want it 100% stock. While you have it apart replace the split bearing 7507. Also, check your pilot and throwout bearing and the "wear" on all parts that use a clevis pin for excessive play. It all adds up in clutch adjustment. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/F...40-48_85hp.jpg |
Re: Clutch release shaft assembly removal If the shaft is worn and in need of replacement , I usually cut it in two on the drivers side of the fork with a zip wheel on my die grinder Then it can be removed and clamped in the vise which makes it much easier to deal with drilling and driving out the pin in the fork.
