I've run a number of cars through Barrett in the past couple of decades and have found them to be a rather good outlet for cars that I'd wanted to sell anonymously.
From my experience, quite unlike Mecum, they (Barrett) run a straight ship.

Our local Ford dealer had two of them for I think $250,000 each in 2018. Looks like it would have been a good investment!

The story is a little deeper than you's guys realize. The few that have currently been built are just now coming out from under "Prohibited Sale" contract with Ford. Plus, Ford wouldn't have sold one to any of us-folks in the first place, 'cuz there ain't none of us folks 'special'-enough. Pretty-much an 'invitation-only' deal like the '53 Corvettes were. Leno got the very first one of these Fords! Click the link below! DD

V8, you jogged my memory, I think the ones the local dealer had were $500,00 not $250,000. They had them in the showroom for a long time. The fleet salesman, who is a friend of mine, was telling me about them getting calls from all over offering way over the posted price. I think he told me they weren't allowed to sell them to these high offer bids, not sure how it worked, but there was a no re-sale contract.

When I was younger I had a chance to set in an original GT-40. It was right hand drive. Very interesting interior, everything looked like it was made in someone's garage, LOL. Metal plate for an instrument panel with round gauges mounted on it, steering wheel welded up out of round stock, etc. They were pure race. They wouldn't let me drive it! :(

Coop, Thank you for the back story! That link explains a lot. And too, Ford Legal Department deserves praise for their good work.

Did the 2018 GT-40's have the Ecoboost V6's that were totally tweaked for race or a V8?

I thought I read Ford used that Ecoboost V6 is some high dollar, exclusive build.

Edit: Quick Google search confirmed Ecoboost V6.

Well.....POO! I don't care how 'bad-ass' that Ecoboost V6 supposedly is. And I'm certain that Ford doesn't give a rat's butt about what I think about any of this, 'cuz They surely didn't call me seeking my opinion! But if THIS frikken' Coopman were to think about spending a 'few' bucks on an exotic, "Gee-Whiz", top-of-the-line, 'go-fast', exotic, factory Super Car, it damned sure ain't gonna have no wimpy-ass-sounding, girly-man V6 in it! I mean....C'mon, Man! What the heck was Ford thinking? Going by the parameters spelled-out in my link above, it seems that Ford REALLY wanted to promote this puppy as the epitome of their bad-boy, 'go-fast' heritage, which for the past fifty-five years or so has come to infer one of Fords inherently-brutal AND 'manly' V8s. Obviously, there are a relative few folks out there with use or lose money just dying to spend it on SOMETHING that might bolster their egos, but half a $million, or even $1,125,000 on a frikken' V6-Mobile? Give me a break! And just imagine the insurance premium on that puppy every six months! Someone mentioned the term "investment" above. How's this for an 'investment'? You can still order one of The General's 2021, go-fast mid-engined 'Wonders' (with the option to re-sell it anytime you desire) that'll do well over 100+ mph FASTER than any US speed limit permits. BASE price this 2021 year for an ordered C8 Corvette will remain at $59,995 for a coupe, and only $67,495 for the convert. You could take what you saved on that Ford GT, build a gorgeous new home with a 6-bay shop on a couple of acres most anywhere here in Texas, and still have over half a million left over to buy several old V8 Fords with. V6 huh? C'mon, Man! DD

Ditto on above. I thought I recalled that was the case. Seems really sad they couldn't figure out how to put an aluminum twin turbo V8 in the GT40.

Yeah, you guys are right. What a waste of money! I wouldn't have it taking up space in my garage if they gave it to me. Piece of garbage.

Right, wimpy-ass for sure at only 647 HP and 550 ft.lbs. of torque pushing a 3,100 lb. vehicle; winner of its class at LeMans first time out. Eat your heart out.

I had a ecoboost V6 F-150. Before I sold it, I had Livernois in Detroit tune it and upgrade the turbos. It would out run and out tow any other stock truck out there. The Ecoboost is a great engine. However, It would be cool to see Ford put the new 7.3l gas push rod motor that is in the newest super duty trucks into the GT. It handles a easy 900 HP with a supercharger, injectors and a tune. But, as we all know gas guzzlers and large cubic inches are a thing of the past. I will never experience it as I would be dreaming of a Ford GT on a Ford Mustang budget; as would 99% of the rest of the world.

Mike, you ask "Seriously?' ...Read my post again and look for the  'roll eyes sarcastic' icon!

Actually, I think I'd get more use out of the 1961 VW 23 window that sold for $265,000! :D

This. Yes, as someone said, electric may be even faster. I’m not saying that the Ecoboost doesn’t produce power, but a V6 in any form in a GT40 is kind of like a mustache on a beauty queen. It just looks out of place.

I did some digging this AM. We all know Dodge has it figured out with their supercharged Hellcat Hemi engine, but it's also not uncommon for guys to get 900-1000 hp with twin spooled Coyote V8's.

Since this is a Ford engine, seems like it would make perfect sense to use that platform, but what the hell to do I know? I can only dream of owning a GT40.

No one said we wouldn’t take it if given, we are only saying it should have had a monster V8 in there.

Wow! Thanks for explaining that to me. I am constantly amazed at the high level of intellect some folks exhibit.
So, how did I do at this "Sar-chasm" thing?
