Radio noise
 

I am trying to determine the best noise filter to eliminate radio noise coming from my Airtex E8902 electric fuel pump. The Airtex technical support suggested an EBay supplied product called Install Bay 50 amp inline noise filter. My radio repair guy suggested an old style grounding condenser normally seen on generators. I do not understand all these electrical terms. What should I buy? The car is a 1947 Ford original 6 volt + ground.

Ask your radio repair guy to look in his box of spare condensers for 3 of them that can be used either polarity. One about 1 microfarad, one about 0.1 microfarad and one about 0.01 microfarad. Don't have to be exact. Try each one to see which works best. One condenser end goes to the pump's hot side. The other to ground. Jack E/NJ

Another thing to try is, ask your radio guy for a 10 amp. COAXIAL capacitor and put it IN SERIES with the feed wire close to the pump. The case on these needs †o be grounded.

The Early V8 Service Bulletins has a section on radio installation that includes placing noise suppression caps in various places in the car. From memory one goes on the dome light switch. That is really not what you are looking for but it will give you an idea that electrical noise was addressed. I don't have my copy available right now so I can't give the cap specs. I will monitor your post to see if you have a resolution to the problem and if not I will get the info for you.

listen to jack. i'm afraid pete is blowing smoke. any cap IN SERIES with the feed wire will block the [DC] current. the old noise suppressor caps were 0.5 microfarad. i'll send you one if like.

petes fine its just a different style of condensor and can be hard to find and work well many times a second hand ignition condensor will do the job
