Re: -40 Back in the 1950s I knew an old timer that used kerosene (coal oil as we called it) in the cooling system instead of anti-freeze.

Re: -40 In the 1940's my buddy had a 1929 Tudor and little cash. In the winter he drew kerosene from his parents 55 gallon barrel and filled his radiator. All was well for a few weeks and he gloated over the money he saved from not buying anti freeze. Things came to a head when his upper radiator hose rotted from the inside and burst. A fire resulted. His wiring burned up, the heat of the fire ruined the paint of the hood, but fortunately the engine ran OK after rewiring.
