Hi

I want to introduce myself here.
I bought the first ever build car from Jensen Motors Ltd. last year. Now in the process of a full rebuild.
The car is a interesting one off, not comparable in any detail with the serial production cars.
Running gear is 1934 Ford (engine, gearbox and rear axle), custom made chassis and alloy body over ash frame.

Looks to be in pretty good shape. Good luck with your project and try to keep us informed of any progress.

Could that car be the one-off they made for Clark Gable?

Motor looks like a 59A and the coil makes it look like it has a crab distributor cap

That´s a real nice looking car.
Engine and radiator must have been changed during the years...it´s a 38 or newer but sparkwire looms are still the early -36.

That is truly a very beautiful car. Congrats on getting it.
Can I assume they Jensen later became Jensen-Healy?

That is a very unusual rear door configuration, how does it work?

The rear cowl is pivoted at the front and flips forward; open the door, and (awkwardly) step in and take your seat. Then you close the door and fold the cowl back down.

Welcome to the Ford Barn! That's a beautiful automobile! Your engine and radiator does appear to have been replaced with a later vintage. If you plan on restoring the running gear to its original state, you'll find plenty of help on this forum.
To another's question regarding the 3rd door, I've seen those small storage cubbies intended for golf clubs and such.

Re: Jensen S1

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The engine was swapped in 1957. When the car was shipped from England to Canada they didn’t drain the cooling system and as a result of the very low temperatures on a December Atlantic crossing the block cracked. I was told that they swapped in an engine from the 40s but kept all auxiliary’s.

I will have many questions indeed.

Re: Jensen S1

What would "alloy body and ash frame" be?

19Fordy 07-12-2019 05:56 PM

Re: Jensen S1

I bet it's aluminum with a wood frame.

alanwoodieman 07-12-2019 06:17 PM

Re: Jensen S1

aluminium as "alloy" is also called in the UK

ash is a very tight grained, flexible wood used in frames for Morgans and baseball bats

Re: Jensen S1

It appears that the firewall is riveted to the cowl. If so, I wonder where else this is done on this beauty.

Nope, not even close. The Gable car had a '36 Ford front end and the remainder of the body was totally different.

Very neat car... if it is a 34 chassis, I am intrigued as to what hubs/brakes it has to adapt those wheels. I’d love to see a photo of the dash panel as well!
