Canadian Weiand heads

So, I have these Canadian heads ( C7RA-6050-B ) that have the name Weiand embossed under the water neck. Anybody have the scoop on why Weiand was casting heads for Ford? Is there a difference from regular Canadian heads?

Because they are/were called "cheater" heads. Meaning, they give you the same high compression as a Weiand finned head, but looks like a Canadian made Ford head to "fool" race inspectors when they were placed on stock cars back in the day.

The Weiand name placed under the water neck makes it less detectable to the inspector who doesn't carry a mirror in his pocket?

Yes, we used them when we started racing, because the ruls said the engines had to look stock. We could bore 1/8 over, stock crank and valves. any cam. To keep the cost down. No body or suspension modifications. This became a plan for cheating, and most of us did. After 8 years, the only thing that remained the same was the 1/8 over bore and stock valves. cars were full modified and a ne rule required all cars to be over 2400 lbs. When I first got to the track lap times aer 22 secs, when they went to OHV engines the Flatheads were doing it in 16 secs. the quicker lap times had little to do with Horsepower, it all came from suspension systems and tires.

Going strong as ever, run by Irene Vendetti the wife, she gotta be in her 90's
but she is sharp as a tack. I haven't been there for 20 yrs can't afford it no
more. In my day imagine 50 cents pit pass $1.50 spectators. 50 cents for
hamburger a buck a beer. All class A was stationed around the pit beer and
hamburger stand. We were the only ones who had electric for like a drop
light and drill. Oh beautiful hamburgs smothered with onions mixed with the
smell of nitro methane that can't be replaced no more. I went by there the
other day and got stunned by they still are running a 48 to 50 yellow
F6 dump truck with all its brooms it was the track clean up truck. We did run at
Tompson CT at times too. sam
